PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which can make use of the properties of a silver halide single-lens reflex camera and obtain a proper viewing angle equal to that of the silver halide single-lens reflex camera without increasing the size of an image pickup element and has superior holding property without making its camera main body project backward. SOLUTION: A photographic lens for a silver halide single-lens reflex camera is used as a photographic lens 301. This camera is equipped with a relay lens optical system 302 which is arranged at a rear part on the optical axis of the photographic lens 301 at a distance shorter than the length of the flange bag of the camera main body 2 and the image pickup element 303 which is arranged at the composite focus position of the photographic lens 301 and relay lens optical system 302 and photoelectrically converts an optical image from the photographic lens. Consequently, the same viewing angle with a silver halide single-lens reflex camera can be secured even by the small-sized image pickup element. Further, the camera main body can be made small-sized.
