PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the vibration of an image forming device by changing a returning speed at the returning of a scanner and a stopping time taken after finishing original reading operation by the scanner till starting returning operation in accordance with the moving distance of the scanner. SOLUTION: When the copying start key of the operation display part of a copying machine is depressed and a scanner motor start signal is detected, a microcomputer sets the start timing of a motor, and then starts the motor. The returning speed Vreturn at the returning of the scanner (1st traveling body) and returning operation standby time Tinit or acceleration a1 to a4 concerning the scanner and the returning operation standby time Tinit are changed in accordance with the moving distance of the scanner decided according to transfer paper and copying magnification selected at the starting of copying. Namely, the returning speed Vreturn at the returning of the scanner and the stopping time Tint taken after finishing the original reading operation by the scanner till starting the returning operation are changed in accordance with the moving distance of the scanner.
