PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a narrow-track magnetic head, capable of coping with a high density magnetic recording and moreover to provide a manufacturing method, capable of producing the magnetic head with high yield and low cost. SOLUTION: Edges 8, 9 of a gap part are formed sharp by making a magnetic gap material 1 to be a conductive material and by forming a notched part 14 regulating a track width by an electric discharge machining. Thereby, the reduction in the degradation of a magnetic characteristic, that is fringes or the like are realized, and a narrow-track magnetic head whose accuracy of an effective track width is stable and whose characteristic is satisfactory is realized. Moreover, the narrow-track magnetic head capable of coping with the high density magnetic recording is manufactured with high yield and at low cost.
