PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the coexistent use of a different kind of battery, in a camera capable of selectively using two kinds of batteries whose outside shapes are almost the same and electrical characteristics are different. SOLUTION: The camera capable of selectively using a first battery 101 and a second battery whose outside shape is almost the same as that of the first battery and electrical characteristic is different is constituted to provide a battery housing chamber 1a having a share space capable of housing the selected one of the first or second batteries, a battery discriminating means (CPU 20) for discriminating whether the battery loaded in the battery housing chamber is the first or second one and a display means (LCD 23) for displaying the loading conditions of the battery loaded in the battery housing chamber, based on the output of the battery discriminating means.
