PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance image-formation optical system which is miniaturized and thinned by folding an optical path by the use of a reflection surface on which the number of reflecting times is small. SOLUTION: This optical system is provided with a 1st prism 10 on the object side and a 2nd prism 20 on the image side and is formed of an image- formation system which does not form an intermediate image. The 1st surface 21 of the 2nd prism 20 makes luminous flux incident on the prism and also reflects the luminous flux reflected by the 2nd surface thereof inside the prism, the 2nd surface 22 reflects the luminous flux made incident from the 1st surface inside the prism, and the 3rd surface 23 thereof emits the luminous flux reflected by the 1st surface to the outside of the prism, and either the 1st surface 21 or the 2nd surface 22 has rotationally asymmetric curved surface shape to give power to the luminous flux and compensate aberration caused by eccentricity. Furthermore, the 1st prism 10 is provided with a reflection surface 12 reflecting the luminous flux inside the prism; and the reflection surface 12 has rotationally asymmetric surface shape to give the power to the luminous flux and compensate the aberration caused by an eccentricity.
