PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic chlorine gas sensor short in recovery time. SOLUTION: This chlorine gas sensor 1 is composed of an electrical insulating ceramic substrate 11, semiconductor ceramics 12 having membranous or linear ZnO formed on the substrate 11 as a main component, and a pair of electrodes 13, 13' installed so as to be brought into contact with both side ends of the semiconductor ceramics 12. Concerning this ceramic chlorine gas sensor 1, as the semiconductor ceramics 12 are membranous or linear, the time required for arrival of chlorine absorbed inside to the outside is short, and the quantity itself of the absorbed chlorine gas is small, therefore, desorption is executed speedily to thereby shorten the recovery time of a conductivity.
