PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compact discharge coil at low cost by employing a conductor having increased electric resistance as the wire of primary coil in the discharge coil thereby reducing labor of winding while enhancing the workability. SOLUTION: The discharge coil comprises a core 3 and primary and secondary coils 1, 2 arranged concentrically over one leg of the core 3. When the primary coil 1 employs a red brass wire or a brass wire of copper/zinc alloy, electric resistance of the primary coil 1 can be increased by a factor of about 3 as compared with a copper wire. In other words, when the primary coil 1 employing a copper wire is compared with that employing a red brass wire or a brass wire while making constant the resistance thereof required for rendering transient phenomenon unoscillatory at the time of discharge, overall length of the wire is halved and the number of turns is decreased significantly while improving deterioration of workability due to use of thin wire by increasing the cross-sectional area of the wire by a factor of about 1.5.
