SOLUTION: This device for removing the coating of the coated optical fiber removes an optical fiber f0 by removing the coating part front end f1 of the coated optical fiber F after heating and softening the coating part front end to expose the optical fiber f0 and has a heater 10 for heating the coating part front end f1, a temp. sensor 11 for detecting the heating state by the heat generation of the heater 10, a charging batter 13 and a control circuit S for controlling the connecting state of the heater 10, an external power source and the charging battery 13. A rapid exothermic mode for causing the rapid heat generation of the heater 10 by the external power source and the charging battery 13 connected in series, a charging battery exothermic mode for causing the heat generation of only the heater 10 by the charging battery 13 and a charging battery charging mode for charging the charging battery 13 by the external powder are selectively executed by a control circuits in accordance with the detection result of the temp. sensor 11.
