PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation detecting mechanism which is compact without increasing the number of parts and capable of detecting fine resolution, in a reduction mechanism by a differential gear mechanism using a planetary gear. SOLUTION: The rotation detecting mechanism is provided with a carrier 4 integrally revolving according to the revolution of the planetary gear 3, while freely rotatably supporting the planetary gear 3 rotating around the rotary shaft 12a of a motor 12, while rotating on the axis of the planetary gear 3, while engaging with a pinion gear 2 integrally rotating with the rotary shaft 12a. Further, the rotation detecting mechanism is constituted to have a photoreflector for detecting the rotation by a method that a rotation detecting part composed of a reflecting surface 4a and a nonreflecting surface 4b provided on the outer periphery of the carrier 4 is detected.
