摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication system by which deterioration in an optical signal caused by the response speed of an ALC in a repeater is much suppressed in comparison with that of a conventional system. SOLUTION: This optical communication system is provided with an optical transmitter 44 and with a repeater 43 having an automatic level control section 63 that applies average level constant control to an optical signal sent from the optical transmitter 44. The optical transmitter 44 has an average level detection section that detects an average level detection signal of an optical signal transmitted to the repeater and sends the average level detection signal to the repeater 43. When the automatic level control section 63 of the repeater 43 detects the average level detection signal, the control section 63 applies average level constant control to the optical signal based on the average level detection signal.
