PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of setting automatic answering telephone service by setting the release or start of the automatic answering telephone service to a base station by radio by opening/closing a cover by radio when a portable mode is automatic. SOLUTION: When the cover is closed and the portable mode is automatic, an outputted signal of a control circuit 5 is transmitted to the base station 6 via a radio circuit 3 and an antenna 4. The start of the automatic answering telephone service is set to the base station 6. In addition, the start of the automatic answering telephone service is set to this foldable portable telephone set by the base station 6 by which the signal is received from the foldable portable telephone set. Also when the cover is opened and the portable mode is automatic, the outputted signal of the control circuit 5 is transmitted to the base station 6 via the radio circuit 3 and the antenna 4. The release of the automatic answering telephone service is set to the base station 6. In addition, the release of the automatic answering telephone service is set to the foldable portable telephone set by the base station 6 by which the signal is received from the foldable portable telephone set.
