PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply pay a fare in a non-contact method. SOLUTION: The fare settlement system is constituted by a portable telephone terminal 1 provided with a portable telephone part 1a connected to a public line and capable of executing radio communication, a radio communication part 1b, a storage part 1c for storing a received station identification(ID) number, a memory part 1d for storing its own terminal ID number and a settlement method, and a control part 1e for controlling respective parts, an entrance machine 2 provided with a radio communication part 2a, a storage part 2b for storing the station ID number, a door part 2g to be opened/closed, and a control part 2c for controlling respective parts, an exit machine 3 provided with a radio communication part 3a, an ID number detection part 3b for detecting the received station ID number and the terminal ID number, an operation part 3c for calculating fare data, a station data base 3d for storing plural station ID numbers, the fares of respective station sections, distance fare data, etc., a control part 3e for controlling respective parts, and a settlement device 4 having a telephone part 4a connected to the public line and executing communication, a settlement processing part 4b for executing required settlement processing, a storage part 4d for storing data, and a control part 4c for controlling respective parts.
