PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably driving a plasma display panel, which is constituted of a cell assembly having a memory function, by suppressing the rise of background light emission by priming electrical discharge. SOLUTION: Relating to a plasma display panel, in which a first and a second electrodes are parallelly arranged on a first printed board for each display line, in which a third electrode is arranged on a second printed board oppositely facing the first printed board in such a manner as to cross the first and the second electrodes, and in which a light emitting display is repeatedly performed using the selective write discharge for writing display data, for the cell of the display line selected by either one of the first or the second electrodes and by the third electrode and using the maintenance discharge of holding the selective write discharge; the pulse (voltage Vw) of a voltage, which is higher than the priming pulse (voltage Vw') for carrying out priming discharge thereafter, is applied between the first and the second electrodes only when the cell is actuated.
