PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent antenna characteristic even in the case of using the terminal mounted on a desk. SOLUTION: A printed circuit board 5 is built in a case 4 and the shape and the size of the board 5 are selected so that when the printed circuit board 5 is placed closely to a metallic plane 8, the printed circuit board 5 is resonated with an operating frequency and acts as a microstrip antenna. In the case of using the portable radio terminal 12 in free space, an antenna 3 is used to obtain an excellent antenna characteristic and in the case of using the portable radio terminal 12 mounted on a desk, the printed circuit board 5 acts as the microstrip antenna to obtain an excellent antenna characteristic.
