DEVICE FOR STITCHING TISSUES USING A SURGICAL NEEDLE

The present invention pertains to medical techniques and more precisely to surgical instruments for stitching tissues using a needle and a thread. The purpose of this invention is to provide devices for passing a thread through the tissues and for further grasping the end portion of said thread using a special device and without introducing the whole needle while applying a stitch. This invention essentially relates to a device for manually applying a stitch using a surgical needle and a thread. The device includes a bent surgical needle (1) which comprises a through-opening (6) in the region of its tip (7) and which is provided with a thread (4) capable of sliding. The end portion (5) of the thread protrudes from an outlet opening (8) formed on the inner side (2) of the bent needle, wherein said inner side is operatively connected to a device in the shape of a surgical shuttle (9). The shuttle consists of pliers which are capable of sliding apart and which include rods (13) or tabs, wherein the inner edges (12) of said rods are brought into contact while their ends are spaced apart so as to define a guiding groove (11). The surgical shuttle (9) and the needle (1) with the thread may consist of a single replaceable unit (26), while the operating part or the branch of the device (31) consisting of a needle-holder is fitted with a lever actuator (36) for said shuttle. The actuator is provided on the branch (33) of the needle holder and is made in the shape of a lever whose fulcrum is the mobile connection (38) with the branch of the instrument.
