The apparatus includes an optic disk drive for the formatting a recordable optic disk through emitting a ray of light to the disk, a format data memory unit for storing application-specific format data in a memory device, and a format data writing arrangement for writing the stored format data on the optic disk by controlling the disk drive, after the formatting of the optic disk is completed normally. An Independent claim is provided for a corresponding formatting method.
