A device to illuminate an apron of a car door with a light source has a ram-protection bar (1) of a car with a hole (9) so that the light emitted from the light source can be radiated in the direction of the road surface (6). In a hollow chamber (7) formed by the ram-protection bar and a car body part (3), a light-balancing unit (8) is located which has a light-balancing surface (14) oriented to the hole. An optic fibre (10) adjoins the light-balancing unit that is connected to the light source located on the car body part on a side facing the vehicle's inside. The light source is positioned in the hollow chamber formed by the ram-protection bar and the car body part.
