The system protects a car driver and-or passenger from side impact in a car crash. It incorporates a circuit with an initiator (30) connected to an evaluation circuit with two outputs. The outputs pass through further stages (32,33) to an OR-gate. The output of the OR-gate is connected to an algorithm switch. The output of this switch is connected to a circuit (35) which checks if the stored air pressure lies over a given threshold. This circuit is then connected to an output circuit.
