The machine tool has a main spindle (1) driven by a main spindle motor (M1) and at least one auxiliary spindle (5) coaxial with the main spindle, movable axially wrt. the main spindle by an auxiliary feed (6) and driven by an auxiliary spindle motor (M2). A workpiece holder works in conjunction with a workpiece clamp associated with the main spindle. The main and auxiliary spindle motors have a common controller (C) that enables different control of at least the revolution rates, rotation angles and torques of both motors.
