A stapling machine has a base (2) which has two upstanding supports (4) which, between them, pivotally support an actuating arm (5) which incorporates a staple magazine (6). The actuating arm is formed of a channel of inverted "U" configuration. The base (2) is provided with an upwardly and forwardly directed tongue at the end of the base adjacent the support means (4), the tongue extending upwardly from the base of the stapling machine and forwardly into the channel constituting the actuating arm (5) at a position above the pivotal mounting means, thus masking the pivotal mounting means.
