Adjustable length element (50) includes a first member (56) having threads, and a second member (60) having threads. The adjustable length member (50) also includes at least one protrusion (64) on one of the first member (56), the second member (60) with the at least one protrusion (64) being capable of engaging or disengaging at least one stop (66) associated with the threads of the other of the first member (56), and the second member (60). A lancet device includes a housing (20), a needle holding member (30) in the housing for holding a lancet (70), a biasing element (40) for biasing the needle holding member (30) toward an extended position, and a trigger (45) for releasing the needle holding member (30) from a retracted position. The lancet device also includes a cap (50) for covering the housing, and for positioning the lancet device relative to a skin surface; the cap including a first cap member (56) having threads, and a second cap member (60) having threads. The cap further includes at least one protrusion (64) on one of the first cap member (56), the second cap member (60), with the at least one protrusion (64) being capable of engaging, disengaging at least one stop (66) in the threads of the other of the first cap member (56), and the second cap member (60).
