A machine tool comprises an annular indexable work-table 5, four work stations 8, and a loading/unloading station 9. Each work station includes three slidable drilling, milling, tapping &c. heads 8, 10 and 13, Fig. 2, and table 5 carries a plurality of work supports 42, Fig. 3, one more than the number of groups of tool units 8, 10 and 13. Each work support is adjustably secured to the table by pins 43, and is urged upwardly from the table by a spring 44. The work supports are each provided with two or more centring members 46, and two or more clamping members 47, which co-operate with the heads 59, 66 of the hydraulic pistons 56 located at the work and loading stations. Control rods 61 are provided with switches 62, 63, which are actuated by rings 64 on the pistons so as to prevent the table indexing motor from operating while the workpieces are being machined. Each work support carries a workclamping member 33, Fig. 1, which member is actuated at station 9 for releasing the workpiece. The heads 8, 10 and 13 may be multi-spindle. |
