The state of the freezer lighting is monitored and the cooling temperature set according to light state, as light is off when shop is shut and is on during business hours. Target temperature is input using an input device outside the freezer. The freezer has a control unit (8) in freezer housing (13) to set predetermined target cooling temperature, using turn regulator (11) located outside housing for access by operator. Each cooling section (3a,b,c) has a light (5a,b,c) connected by supply line (6) from power source (9) with light switch (10), operable from outside freezer. Control unit detects switching state of light. If lighting is switched out, control unit sets to temperature selected by regulator (11). During opening times, to prevent increase of temperature when customers are opening freezer, control unit lowers predetermined temperature value by a specific difference, to compensate for warming up of cooling space and retain correct temperature. Temperature difference is input using difference selector (12).
