3,3-Dichloro-2-fluoroacrylic acid derivatives (I) are used for protecting plants against microbial attack, controlling animal pests or potentiating the activity of azole fungicides. Some compounds (I) are new. The use of 3,3-dichloro-2-fluoroacrylic acid derivatives of formula (I) is claimed for protecting plants against attack by undesirable microorganisms, for controlling animal pests and for potentiating the activity of azole fungicides. A = OR1 or NR2R3; R1 = H, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl or -CR4R5R6; R4 = H, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenylalkyl or -(CH2)nCOOR7; n = 0-6; R5 = H, alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; R6, R7 = H or alkyl; R2 = H, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl or -CR8R9R10; R3 = H, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenylalkyl or -CO-C(F)=CCl2; or R2 + R3 = 4-7C alkylene, optionally having one C (not adjacent to N) replaced by O, S or N(R12) and optionally substituted by alkyl and/or -COR11; R8 = H, alkyl, alkenyl, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenylalkyl or -(CH2)nCOR11; R11 = OH, alkoxy or NH2; R9 = H, alkyl, alkenyl, optionally substituted phenyl or optionally substituted heteroaryl; R10 = H or alkyl; or R9 + R10 = 2-7C alkylene, optionally having one C replaced by O, S or N(R12) and optionally substituted by alkyl and/or alkoxy; R12 = H, alkyl, alkylcarbonyl or alkoxycarbonyl. Independent claims are included for (i) a corresponding plant protection method, (ii) (I) as new compounds, provided that R1 is other than H and R4 is other than H or alkyl, (iii) the preparation of the new compounds (I) and (iv) fungicidal compositions containing (I) and an azole fungicide.
