An articulated vehicle 1, Figs. 1, 2, having a front part 2 connected by a pin or ball joint 6 to a rear part 3, this joint consisting of a flange 7 on the rear part overlapping a flange 8 on the front part and an interconnecting pin or ball 9, is characterized by a convex cylindrical end 10 on the front part being engaged by rollers 12 carried by brackets 13 fixed to the concave end 11 of the rear part. The rollers 12 are held in engagement with the end 10 by hydraulic rams 14, 15 connected between the brackets 13 and brackets 16 on the part 2. The rams 14, 15 also serve to steer the vehicle and a self-centring action is provided by making the radius of the end 10 smaller at those portions of the end engaged by the rollers 12 when the parts 2, 3 are aligned for straight running. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the periphery of a central circular part 19 is engaged by rollers 26, 27, respectively carried by a front vehicle part 18 and a rear vehicle part 20, under the action of rams 30, 31. According to another embodiment (Figs. 7, 8, not shown), the vehicle comprises three articulated parts each with a pair of road wheels, the centre part being connected to each end part as shown in Figs. 1, 2. |
