1,175,134. Oxidation of hydrocarbons. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 6 July, 1967 [6 July, 1966; 10 March, 1967], No. 31144/67. Heading C2C. A process for manufacturing alcohols by oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons in the liquid phase by means of a gas containing molecular oxygen and in the presence of a boron compound wherein the reaction product is hydrolysed in order to recover the desired alcohol is characterized in that the oxidation is conducted in the presence of 1 to 2000 parts of arsenic compounds expressed in weight of As 2 O 3 per million parts by weight of boric acid expressed in metaboric acid or in the presence of 1 to 10,000 parts by weight of molybdenum or tungsten compounds per million parts by weight of the hydrocarbon subjected to oxidation. Numerous arsenic, molybdenum and tungsten compound are specified. The examples describe the oxidation of cyclohexane and m-octane to cyclohexanol and n-octanol with some cyclohexanone and n-octanone as by-products. |
