PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to efficiently wash rice by the agitating effect of only water and air by continuously supplying the water and the air respectively to the bottom in a rice washing tank and to rapidly and efficiently wash the rice by discharging only the washed rice from the bottom of the rice washing tank. SOLUTION: Only a prescribed amt. of the rice in a storage house is first fed into the rice washing tank 30 in the state of closing a discharge valve 40 and, thereafter, the water is fed from one feed water pipe 51 to the upper part of the rice washing tank 30 at the time of rice washing. Next, the water is fed from another feed water pipe 51 to the bottom of the rice washing tank 30 and, simultaneously, the air is supplied from an air compressor 71 via an air supply duct 72 to the center in the bottom in the rice washing tank 30. While the water and the air are continuously risen, the water and rice in the rice washing tank 30 are agitated to wash the rice. At this time, the excess water in the rice washing tank 30 is drained from an overflow section 61. In succession, the water in the rice washing tank 30 is drained from a drain hose and, thereafter, the discharge valve 40 is opened to discharge only the washed rice.
