PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disposable diaper which can reduce the frequency of use of a sheet material in the rear girth by making wing parts relatively smaller in size. SOLUTION: This disposable diaper 1 has a top sheet 2, a back sheet 3 and a liquid absorbing core 4 interposed between the sheets 2 and 3. The portion along the length thereof crossing the direction of the girth thereof is made up of a front girth area 20, a rear girth area 22 and a crotch area 21 positioned between both the areas. Wing parts 24 extended in the direction of the girth separately from two sides of the rear girth area 22 are detachably retained on the external surface of the front girth area 20. In the wing parts 24, a tab 6 foldable outward in the direction of the girth is formed by a cutting line A protrusively extending toward the center line Y of dividing the diaper 1 in two across the width thereof at a part separated inward by a specified dimension from a side rim 10 of each wing part. On the external surface of the tab 6, a retaining means 7 detachable on the external surface of the front girth area 20 is formed at a part which extends outwardly from the side rim 10 of the wing part 24 when the tab 6 is folded.
