PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the computing time required for the measurements of individual infrared rays radiated from an organism, using an infrared thermometer measuring the infrared rays plural times and regarding the highest value of body temperature calculated from each measurement as the true body temperature. SOLUTION: This infrared thermometer uses a function value calculation means 14 to calculate, instead of calculating body temperature during the measurements of individual infrared rays, function values which are in a relation of monotone functions to body temperature and which can be calculated through a smaller amount of computation than for body temperature, and uses a body temperature calculation means 17 to calculate the body temperature from the measurements of the infrared rays selected by a function value calculation means 15 on the basis of the magnitude of each function value. Therefore, computing time can be made shorter than it would be if the body temperature itself is calculated every time.
