PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording apparatus which can efficiently process in accordance with kinds of sense materials. SOLUTION: This recording apparatus includes a sense material box 2 where sense materials 11 not used are stored, a sense material magazine 11 to which the sense material 11 with predetermined data recorded thereto is discharged, a light source 15 for performing recording to the sense materials 1, a transfer means set between the sense material box 2 and the sense material magazine 11 which executes either of a first mode of transferring the sense material 1 without forming a slack part and a second mode of forming a slack part to the sense material 1 while the sense material is being recorded by the light source 15 and transferring the sense material 1 in a manner to extinguish the slack part after the recording, a sense material kind detection means 17 for detecting a kind of the sense material 1, and a control part for driving the transfer means in the first mode or second mode in accordance with the kind of the sense material 1 detected by the sense material kind detection means 17.
