PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load applied to a primary seal part by eliminating the unbalance of radial fluid pressure applied to a seal device. SOLUTION: A seal ring 2 and a cover ring 3 have their respective axial end faces formed into a staircase structure 11 consisting of a plurality of steps, and a part of the axial end face of the staircase structure 11 is brought into contact with a housing 16 to form a space 18 between the housing 16 and the staircase structure 11. An orifice 19 through which fluid pressure is introduced into the space 18 is formed in the housing 16. The staircase structure 11 can equalize the pressure-receiving areas of the outer and inner peripheries of the seal device that receive the fluid pressure. Radial unbalance applied to the seal device can be eliminated to reduce the load of a primary seal part. |
