PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a reduction in capacity of incineration ash generated at a city garbage incinerator. SOLUTION: Iron 3 is stored at a storage part 2 within a body box 1. Incineration ash 30 fed from a chute 10 flows down on a slope part 5 being pushed by blocks 8a and 8b to be supplied to the storage part 2. Flame is jetted from a burner 12A toward the incineration ash 30 on the slope part 5 to accomplish a concentrated heating of the incineration ash 30. The body box is made cylindrical so that heat is concentratedly radiated onto the incineration ash 30 on the slope part 5 from an internal wall surface presenting a circularly curved surface. The incineration ash 30 sent to the storage part 2 is further heated therein to be fully melted and flows in a downflow path 18 running over a wall part 9 down onto a conveyor 22 in a water tank 20. In the water tank 20, the ash is quickly cooled to be turned to a vitreous slag 30' and discharged from the water tank 20 by the conveyor 22.
