PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stainless steel material having superior workability and corrosion resistance and further having excellent antibacterial characteristic even if subjected to general purpose surface working including grinding, and its production. SOLUTION: Ag and Ti are incorporated into a stainless steel by 0.0001-1.0 wt.% and 0.001-3 wt.%, respectively. Moreover, >=0.0001% by volume ratio, in total, of one or >=2 kinds among silver grains, silver sulfides, and silver oxides are incorporated into a steel material, and further, titanium oxides are dispersed by >=0.0001% by volume ratio. It is preferable that, at the time of continuously casting a molten steel, the pouring rate at continuous casting is made to (0.7 to 1.7) m/min.
