PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the shortening of an effective mold length and the stable supply of lubricating oil in a conventional mold used for vertical continuous casting. SOLUTION: A refractory ring 1 for mold is composed of a refractory and has a cross sectional shape composed of a vertical piece 4 and a horizontal piece 2 extended to the outer periphery from the upper part of the vertical piece and forms one pair of inclining end surfaces 8, 8 which diagonally cross the vertical piece 4 and the horizontal piece 2 to the circumferential direction in contact with each other end surface so as to enable the elastic deformation by relatively shifting while being in contact with each other inclining end surface 8, 8 along the circumferential direction. Further, the mold 10 for vertical continuous casting which is used for aluminum or its alloy, etc., and formed as almost cylindrical shape in the whole body and contains an upper mold 12 having a casting space 11 straight or inclined as bottom widening state in the inside in the vertical direction and the refractory ring 6 fitted to the opening part at the upper end of the casting space 11 by utilizing the elastic deformation to the circumferential direction, is used, too.
