PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tap water sludge concentration apparatus capable of obtaining concentrated sludge of constant concentration without dependeng on a season and enabling stable concentration and an operation method therefor. SOLUTION: In the operation method of a tap water sludge concentration apparatus concentrating tap water sludge generated when raw water taken in from rivers or the like is purified, tap water sludge is concentrated by a membrane module 14 while the sludge concn. in a membrane raw water tank 10 is detected and it is detected that the sludge concentration in the membrane raw water tank 10 reaches a predetermined value by a control unit 25 to stop the supply of tap water sludge to the membrane module 14 and the concentrated sludge in the membrane raw water tank 10 is withdrawn and, after the membrane module 14 is washed, tap water sludge is again supplied to the membrane raw water tank 10 to be concentrated by a membrane.
