PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the creep resistance performance, moldability, and impact strength at low temp., by specifying the density, the elution amt. by the cross fractionating method, and the wt. average mol.wt. of a resin. SOLUTION: A solid obtd. by reacting a compd. contg. at least titanium, magnesium and a halogen, with a tetraalkoxy zirconium and/or zirconium tetrahydride, is reacted with a halogen-contg. titanium compd. which may also contain an alkoxy group to form a solid product. The solid product thus obtd. is combined with an organoaluminum compd. to form a catalyst. In the presence of this catalyst, ethylene or a combination of ethylene and a 3-10Cα-olefin is (co)polymerized under a pressure of from normal pressure to 100 kgf/cm2, and at -100 to 300 deg.C to form an ethylene-based resin having a density of 0.943-0.958 g/cm3, an elution amt. of 35 wt.% -45 wt.%, the amt, being obtd. at 95 deg.C or over by the cross fractionating method, and a wt. average mol.wt. of 1.7×105-4.5×105, of the components eluted at one-minute intervals over the range of 95-99 deg.C.
