PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve earthquake-resistance by arranging PC steel members in the axial direction of a concrete bridge pier. SOLUTION: PC steel members 3 are arranged in the vicinity of the peripheral edge of a bridge pier 1, in the full length. The end is anchored in the a bridge pier foundation block 2 and the top of the pier 1 to introduce a prestress. Then, the end of the steel member 3 is anchored in the middle of the foundation 2 and the pier 1 to introduce a prestress in the necessary part of the pier 1. Then, an endless wire 4 is inserted in a U-shaped insertion passage formed in the foundation 2 to omit the anchorage part of the foundation 2. Further, the anchorage part of a PC steel member 5 is formed in the side of the pier 1 to facilitate the anchorage of the upper part. When there is a restriction in the anchorage part, the PC steel member 6 is provided at the center of pier 1, and in the case of an eccentric load 9, the steel member 8 is provided at a nonsymmetric position in the cross sectional inplane. Moreover, the pier 1 composed of a number of precast members is unified by the steel member 3, and a PC steel member 7 is arranged in the rigid bridge pier 1. In this way, a superior restoring force characteristic having only a small residual displacement can be formed.
