PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently form backing materials without using a hot melt film or roll coater, etc. by spray coating the rear surface of a carpet body with a dispersion prepd. by dispersing powder of a thermoplastic resin, then drying the coating to form the backing paper scattering in a dotty form. SOLUTION: The rear surface of the carpet body 1 is spray coated with the dispersion 8 prepd. by dispersing the powder of the thermoplastic resin. Polyolefin resins, such as polyethylene and polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, etc., alone or mixtures of >=2 kinds thereof are used as the thermoplastic resin. The carpet body is dried after the spray coating. The drying is preferably executed under heating by temp. above the m.p. of the thermoplastic resin applied on the carpet body. The thermoplastic resin applied on the carpet body by the drying is made into the backing materials 13 of the carpet.
