Aqueous cleaning compositions for removing limescale on hani surfaces, especially metai surfa are disclosed which comprises a surfactant or mixtures then of, an acid with its first pKa not exceeding 5, or mixtures thereof, and m acid in a weight ratio of maleic acid to said acid such titat the surface safety is improved. Said compositions are particularly suitable to be used in the bathrooms and in the kitchens or for descaling appliances.
