PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emission stopping device for an automobile display whereby the vehicle compartment is precluded from being illuminated light internally by the display when the car is moving backward. SOLUTION: When the reverse position of a transmission is selected by a reverse sensing means 6, light emission from a screen of a display means 1 is stopped by a light emission stopping means 5, so that there is not risk that inside the vehicle compartment is illuminated light when the car is moving backward. Accordingly the driver will never be bothered by glaring owing to lightness inside the vehicle compartment even in case the car is moved back at night, so that he can see well the surrounding of the car. When the reverse position is disengaged, the screen is restituted to its initial light emitting state.
