PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of coating the outside surface of a metal tube and a device therefor by which coating can be performed with uniform coating applied quantity distribution in the tube length direction and in the circumferential direction on the metal tube and without needing accurate metal tube rotation velocity and reciprocating device transfer velocity control or the like to secure high treating efficiency. SOLUTION: Plural nozzle tips 2 each having an oblong discharge pattern are arranged above a metal tube 1 in the tube length direction so that the major axis direction of the discharge pattern is the same as the tube length direction of the metal tube 1. These nozzle tips 2 are moved in the direction perpendicular to the tube length direction of the metal tube 1 to divide the pipe length direction into plural ranges and coating of a division unit in which the circumferential direction is divided into plural ranges is repeatedly performed for one or plural metal tubes 1 in a stationary state in the circumferential direction. After coating, drying and curing of the whole periphery of the metal tube 1 have been finished, the metal tube 1 is supported at the completed parts to subject the residual divided ranges in the tube length direction to coating, drying, and curing.
