PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a board material which can be used as a substitute material for a conventional particle board without the necessity to use a wooden raw material, at a low cost. SOLUTION: The stem of either of corn or sugar cane is mixed with bean cake or rice bran, and a sodium alginate is added to the mixture. Further, this mixture is compression-molded into a boardlike shape at a high temperature under a high pressure. This manufacturing approach enables an adequately usable board material to be made using a low cost agricultural waste. Consequently, it is possible to curtail the manufacturing cost significantly compared to a conventional particle board and thus contribute to forest protection and dispose of the agricultural waste.
