PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a water treating coagulant aid safe for the human body though used for water purifying treatment, good in coagulation efficiency and effective by containingβstarch capable of being madeαprior to adjustment to a specific pH value, caustic soda and/or caustic potasium, and sodium silicate, and adjusting the pH at a specific value. SOLUTION: After makingβstarchαas aqueous solution wherein it is mixed together with caustic soda and/or caustic potassium, sodium silicate is added. That is, sodium silicate 3, caustic soda 4 andβstarch 5 are added to water 2 contained in a tank 1, and by mixing by stirring at pH 12 or higher with a stirrer 6, theβstarch 5 is gelatinized to a water soluble organic polymer. Thereafter, the pH is adjusted to 11 or under by adding acid, and silicate monomer is polymerized to generate macromolecular polymerized silica. Thereby, a large particle sized floc of good sedimentation property can be formed to improve a solid-liquid separation speed, and that can be safely used for drinking water treatment also.
