PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an active energy ray curable aqueous resin composition capable of efficiently introducing (meth)acryloyl groups into resin skeletons, free from blocking even in uncured coated films and, in addition, possessing excellent properties in curability, solvent resistance and abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: A modified resin obtained by reacting (a) a Michael addition product of a compound having one primary amino group in the molecule to the double bond of a compound having two or more (meth)acryloyl groups with (b) a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer as the essential components is neutralized, and then, dispersed into an aqueous medium and, if necessary, further chain-extended with a polyamine to obtain an active energy ray curable aqueous resin composition.
