PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide spacer expanders of an oil ring capable of smoothing and ensuring cutting made with an assembly machine. SOLUTION: A plurality of spacer expanders 11 for an annular oil ring open at each end are stacked and mounted in a cylindrical assembly machine magazine 32 while increased in diameter. Each spacer expander 11 is displaced upward by its width by a pushing member 43 or the like that abuts against the lower end of the lowermost spacer expander 11, so that the uppermost spacer expander 11 is removed from the upper end of the assembly machine magazine 32. Therefore, the spacer expanders 11 are assembled in the oil ring grooves 2 of a piston 1. Each spacer expander 11 is corrugated such that its inner and outer peripheral surfaces are both displaced in the direction of the axis of the annular shape, with the corrugations on the inner periphery having a higher corrugation height value than the corrugations on the outer periphery. When the plurality of spacer expanders 11 are stacked, the corrugations on their inner peripheries are made to abut against one another.
