PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester carbonate less colored and excellent in heat resistance or the like by reacting an aliphatic polyester oligomer, obtained by the reaction of an aliphatic dihydroxy compound with an aliphatic dibasic acid in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, with an aliphatic carbonate compound and adjusting a carbonate unit content, mol.wt. and the like to a specific value, respectively. SOLUTION: An aliphatic dihydroxy compound and/or a hydroxycarboxylic acid compound are reacted with an aliphatic dibasic acid (derivative) in the presence of a transesterification catalyst to give an aliphatic polyester oligomer having a number average mol.wt. of not exceeding 10,000, which is reacted with an aliphatic carbonate compound to give an aliphatic polyester carbonate having a carbonate unit content of at least 5 mole %, a wt. average mol.wt. of at least 100,000, a melt viscosity, at a temperature of 190 deg.C and a load of 60 kg, of 1,000-50,000 poise and a melting point of 70-180 deg.C and free from an aromatic hydroxy compound.
