PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a carbon-carbon bond which can form a diacethylene deriv. by injecting electrons into a soln. containing a ruthenium complex having a specified structure and tetraethylammonium salt and adding carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide. SOLUTION: The ruthenium complex is expressed by the formula (wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 are aromatic substituents having nitrogen atoms bonded to ruthenium, and the substituents adjacent to each other may be present in one molecule), and has 2 naphthylidines in one complex. The naphthylidine is preferably 1,8-naphthylidine. The fixing device of carbon dioxide is equipped with a holding means of a soln. containing the ruthenium complex and tetraethyl ammonium salt, a supply means of carbon dioxide to supply carbon dioxide to the soln., and an electron injecting means to inject electrons to the soln. As for the electron injecting means, the electrode reaction is most appropriate because one tetraethyl ammonium salt acts two roles as an alkylating agent and an electrolyte.
