PURPOSE:To enhance the color purity of three primary colors; R, G, and B by laminating a Lyot filter as a band-pass filter on a liquid crystal display panel. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display device is so constituted that the Lyot filter 2 formed by holding a thin layer of crystals between polarizing plates is laminated on the surface of the liquid crystal display panel 1 of an ECB type. Namely, if the Lyot filter 2 as the band pass filter is laminated on the liquid crystal display panel, the Lyot filter 2 is a filter of a double refraction type and transmission spectra of a narrow width are obtainable with this filter and, therefore, the selective transmission of the R, G and B can be executed by corresponding the respective transmission spectra to the R, G and B. The color purity of the hues emitted by the liquid crystal display panel 1 is enhanced in this way. |
