1276311 Propellants FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 10 June 1969 [14 June 1968] 29273/69 Heading C1D [Also in Divisions E1 and G6] A propellant consists of a primer which comprises a mixture of finely divided aluminium and an alkali metal peroxide (e.g. sodium peroxide) and an explosive which is preferably ammonium picrate. The ratio of aluminium to alkali metal peroxide in the primer should preferably be within the molar range 4 : 3 to 1 : 3. The propellant is used to expel a radioactive tracer, for example krypton 85 as a hydroquinone clathrate, from a cavity in an earth drilling tool. The cavity is exposed when the tool wears by a predetermined amount, and water in the well then causes the primer to ignite. |
