PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means taking into consideration the particularity of a brake setting device including a parking brake function and an additional resetting device in an electromechanical brake device for an automobile. SOLUTION: At least one control unit (12a, 14a, 16a, 18a) associated with at least one wheel brake controls an actuator controlling the wheel brake (12b, 14b, 16b, 18b) according to a set value. The actuator has an electric motor (M1H) and a lock device, particularly a release device (Ku1). In order to control the wheel brake via the electric motor, the lock device is first released, and after the operation of the wheel brake is finished, the lock device is reconnected. Energy is supplied from another energy source to the other control units for the other wheel brakes. The energy source operates an additional resetting device (M1R) in the actuator in the event of the failure of the brake device.
